hi everyone

We moved to another house recently, and it has a little problem...

there are two bathrooms - one in the ground floor, and second upstairs... the one upstairs stinks really bad.. the drains from the sink and shower are free - we used 2l of special liquid already - to free it... it is not the problem... as it stinks differently - this smells like there is no water trap or somethin - I took a pitcure of what I took off and what I presume will be the problem:

this is what is in the floor of both bathrooms:

this is the inside of that what is under that cover. It fills with water - when u run either sink or shower... it stops smelling after water gets in...

and this is the other bathroom's drain - but this one do not smell at all...

Can somebody tell me what is wrong with the 1st floor drain system? is there any water trap missin or somethin,,? as I was suspecting its the shower stinkin - but yesterday it was the sink itself... so the problem must be inside of that common drain in the floor (it really smells like when u have drain from some stinky hole without any filter at all -- like there was jsut a pipe to the main drain and nothin protecting it from smell goin up...

please any answer appriciated . quickly...

Regards
Peter

Any chance you could take another pic to show how the upstairs bathroom fittings are in relation to the access point on the floor?

btw - the shower drain itself has basicaly no water trap or anything (not sure if it is common to have it like that over here... but as I said, yesterday the smell was coming even from the sink...

dont even have a single clue to what the set up is :/ never seen it before

neither have i. could the problem be something to do with one drain has a very shallow trap and the other one is quite deep?

Looks like a foreign setup. Stayed in turkey earlier in the year and every bathroom had a drain in the floor (similar setup) one of which smelled pretty bad regardless of how often the trap was filled.

oh damn:D yeah it is nnot in the uk, I reside in Spain at the moment.... it is apparently not the best solution for drain, is it...

that says it all, they obviously have different set ups over there try contacting a Spanish plumber

the shower will be connected to the floor drain therefor it will be trapped you need to try an aav on the basin trap see if that helps

AAV - is that Air Admitance Valve?
btw I took a pic of the shower water trap itself -

- that silicone around it was very brittle... is there a way that this trap is piece of crap and causing the gases come out,? as I checked and it seems that now its again only shower what stinks...

I think you've prob just caused a leak on that shower trap.

:D thanks for tellin me I "had not" realised that before... Will re-seal that... anything else you wanna tell me that I do not know, somethin usefull regarding the original question maybe?

Something useful? Okay. Call a plumber. We're not here to give free advice to people with your poor attitude. I was only trying to warn you that if you put that trap back together as is, it will most likely leak.

if you meant it as a friendly advise then sorry bud... It looked more like a smart-bum-kind-of a comment that you get on the forums from people who are not about to tell you anythin useful... :21: ;)

Dnt understand, your asking a question about your plumbing in spain to a UK plumbers forum?!

Never fails to amaze me that, see it all the time on the tiling forum too.

Don't these people have forums in their own country?

^^^^^^^
:iamwithstupid:
jeeeez I aint a spaniard... Noir I speak spanish ...

btw its solved, the smell was mostly coming from the space between floor n toilet itself - just used silicone and its OK now (there was old n missing in some spots)... it partially stopped after I resealed the water trap in the shower -so it was easier to trace it afterwards... so basicaly two spots where it was comin from...

btw for you guys above, I didnt know that a few pipes is rocket science (no offence ... I build racing engines for living)..., noir I didnt know that when a native resides in Spain for a while - then he is not allowed to come to ask on the forum in his own language regardless of where he is ?
Oh I know, you all are certified plumbers but you are certified only for the UK systems, another type of a setup is somethin unseen and unheard of... yet it all works whole lot different...

Btw thanks to those who tried to help, I appriciate that...:)
Regards

Its an obvious trap seal loss what causes the smell. You need to send more pics of how the orientation of the drainage is set out there..As far as I've never seen a set up like it ever unless its an old wet room!!
