There is a whiff in my upstairs en-suite. The toilet was leaking between the pan and the pan connector, I swapped out the pan connector for a flexi-connector, which stopped the leak. However the smell is as bad as ever. I know the seal on the shower is :hand:, and will attend to that. I assuming the smell is from the leak rather than the emittance of drain smells. How can I tell? If it is just the residual smell how/what can I do to overcome that pong so that going in the en-suite is not breath or not to breathe situation

Are you on main drainage or a septic tank and is this in the UK or abroad? Also wood or concrete floor?

What does it smell of?

Urine? Damp?

Give us a clue

I don't know really - its really hard to place to smell. It doesn't smell like poo, it doesn't smell like I'd expect pee to smell. However the toilet had been on a slow-leak for god knows how long!

If it was a smell I could place I'm sure I'd be having a much easier time getting shot of it.

Main drainage, UK and wood.

Was the wood under the toilet leak soaking wet if so that could be the cause but you said something about another leak on the shower somewhere so equally that could the problem, best to fix shower and look at the floor for a start I reckon.

I have had a similar issues where toliets have been leaking from the rear of the pan connector, sometimes by the look of it for years. Once I had allowed all of the flooring and joists to dry out, I seal the wood, using a pva base which stops the smell straight away. I am sure there are other ways of doing it but this works for me. Happy hunting.

I have attached an image of the brass body within a tap. Having replaced a cartridge which has cured a leaking tap, I can see that there is a small leak from the brass body which can be unscrewed. Is there a seal behind the body? Thanks.

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...

I have a plumber coming tomorrow to change a cartridge on a badly dripping tap on my bathroom mixer unit. There is no separate isolating valve for this tap so I'll have to close the stopcock. I tried closing it today but it won't go absolutely 100% closed and there is still a very slight flow...
