Hi, I have a very old garden tap that leaks and needs replacing. Any advice or ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Honest opinion best employe the services of a plumber

Hello John. The tap itself probably can be carefully repaired but the pipe is lead and only thing to do with lead pipe us to have it replaced to some extent, if not completely.
Ideally you are better with the pipe supply coming from indoors to outside so as not to have ugly exposed pipes that can also freeze. But if nothing much can be done, then just an adapter fitting from lead to 15mm pipe and a brass tap back plate and new tap needed.
As Shaun said, - get a plumber to look at it to decide

yes, usually easy to service the tap, but probably hasn't got a double check valve, in which case should not be using a hose on it.
