arron lowley

while removing some timber/wood that was connected to the wall where the boiler was located before it was moved, this stuff came from behind it or in the wall, now to me it doesnt look like asbestos, but im a right in saying it could contain asbestos? it feels soft and is very easy to break.

Hello Arron. I honestly don't know what that is, despite enlarging the images.
Does seem to be full of hair.

Yes, if you can, although your first photos were fairly good.

the small cupboard the boiler was in was very dusty so i think some of it is dust, when i took some more pictures it leaves a white residue on the floor like a powder.

If you think it is asbestos. Take it to an asbestos disposal site. Don't mess with it. However I'm not sure it is but if in doubt check it out.

It seems to be impregnated by hair, dust and possibly plaster etc

so do you think it might just be a load of crap mixed into one, the only reason i was worried is because im only 22 lol, i want a long life.

Probably, but probably it won't damage your health, isn't a very reassuring comment.
Don't disturb the dust if you still are unsure.
Would need someone to eyeball it who is experienced with asbestos removal. I have never seen asbestos looking like that in that mixture of stuff

No your fine

Either find ab coated insulation or ab sheets

considering they made rawlplugs from asbestos and fake snowflakes I totally understand and share your concern.

It is the sort of place where fibreglass insulation was used. It can look similar to what you have, dark or light in colour
How old is the house and in particular, when was that work in that area done approximately, do you think?

its atleast 30-40 years old, my girlfriends mum told me that the cupboard was where they used to store towels in and there were shelfs, not sure how long ago.

There was still asbestos being used in that sort of era, but was a lot rarer because danger of asbestos was well known by then.

il take your word for it, and il just vac it and make sure i have a mask on

Possibly horse hair used to be mixed with lime plaster to hold it together ...try not to disturb it and if you are hoovering it up wise move to mask up as you said earlier...regards Turnpin:)

Put a match to it.
If it burns, it's not asbestos.
If it doesn't burn - it asbestos.

Plumbers way of checking if something is asbestos.
Rough & crude...but does eliminate the question of dust and lint when encountered

It looks like a piece of old hair felt lagging mixed with dust and plaster.
If you look close, it has pink and blue flecks in it !

I obviously can't say for definite as I'm looking at a photo but that's what the first photo looks like to me !

If in doubt, treat it like it is asbestos is my advice !!

Make sure any dust mask you use is proper one even if just collecting a sample. Not just a folding paper one. And vacuum can just send particles into orbit through the exhaust unless special unit. Better to spray with water and gently sweep. Also consider if your clothes pick it up, wear disposable overalls. Wash clothes separately. The match test sounds good, not come across that before. You can go on free asbestos awareness courses, sign up with HSE, they also have good advice sheets free to download.
