I'm after some advice whilst I wait for the plumber to turn up. The filling loop on our vaillant boiler has seen its last days and was passing water. After phoning the plumber he said isolate the water supply with the stopcock. So done that but the pressure on the boiler is rising. It's risen to max on the gauge. Going all the way round and stopped by the pin that's stops the needle from going below 0. We have literally just moved into the house and I really don't know what to do. The plumber can't get out till tomorrow. Also we are still getting water in the bathroom upstairs
 
Then the water is not off ! is the filling loop a chrome braded pipe below boiler or is it built into the boiler ? do you use a screw driver to operate it of does it have leavers ? If the chrome hose type pop down local plumbers out let get a couple of caps remove the chrome hose and cap at each end, if built into boiler make sure that valves are fully off some times plastic leavers don't turn off so remove leavers and use small spanner or grips
 
Bathroom could be fed via a balanced supply from storage tanks in the loft. Does the pressure rise when boiler is off or just goes through the roof when it's on? Best to disconnect the filling loop and put an half inch cap on the ends turn boiler off and put your water back on. You don't want to be without water until your plumber arrives.
 
Depends how the fill loop is isolated. My older one at home just has single ballofix with the DCV on the boiler side to stop backflow. Newer one in local hall has two ballofixes, second one before the DCV. I normally leave the loop connected and used to have probs with seepage past the valve at home and boiler over pressurising until I replaced the cheapo ballofix with a decent one. As above, suggest disconnecting the loop and fit caps.

I've turned off the boiler and the pressure is dropping slowly. We have a tank thats full of water in the loft that the plumber has asked me to empty before he arrives, which I have know idea how to do other than empty from the radiator . And the filling loop that's on is a single cheepo ballofix.
 
I wouldn't say the tanks were being used for heating
 
I've just got some plugs from the plum centre and caped of the loop. Thanks for the help guys. Very much appreciated. Thought I was going to flood the new house haha.
 
Quick update. Plumber been and jobs done. Changed the filling loop but he said something about the water traveling back threw? Also said run a tap for a bit and your good to go. But again thank you guys for the help. It's a very good community you've got yourself here full of helpful people unlike some forums.
