Please help! Does anyone have a spare rubber shroud (grommet) for a potterton lynx 2 ng combi boiler, part number 222161pot? You would make my day! Thanks

If you mean the rubber ring that go's round the flue outside any one will fit doesn't have to be Potterton.

Hi, thanks but no it's a grommet for sealing the hole in the metal casing, the hole is a test point for gases and should have a rubber shroud. They are no longer available to order

Hello Henry0101,

Do You mean a rubber Shroud / Grommet type part that seals the Flue Analyser hole in the Combustion Chamber `Door` ?

When I installed a few Potterton Lynx 2 Combi`s many Years ago I was very critical about the design and manufacture of that part - from memory it was just a push in rubber `Plug` which I decided at the time would gradually become loose and not seal the hole - either through the rubber `perishing` / degrading or possibly through use for a Flue Analyser - although this was not a regular `Test` back when the Lynx 2 was released onto the market.

It was not much better than a rubber Cork !

I installed a few of the Lynx 2 Combi`s in some Flats on a small New build contract but I would not have specified the Lynx 2 for any of my own Installations purely on the basis of not liking that part.

If I am correct that what I described is what you need I doubt that You will be successful in obtaining one of these - like most Potterton Lynx parts they would now be obsolete and they are probably not a part that a Heating / Gas Engineer would salvage from a Lynx that they removed.

Could You please let Me / Us know whether I am correct that what I described is the part that You need ?

Regards,

Chris

EDIT: Sorry that I did not see your second message Henry - I must have been writing my reply.

For other Readers / Members I am attaching a partial parts diagram for the Casing & Gas Assembly Parts - see part number 85 - the `Rubber Cork` which seals the Flue Analyser hole in the Combustion Chamber Door.

Regards, Chris

In the boiler manual the hole is called sample probe test point, I believe. I think what you are describing is the part I am after. It's a long shot but someone may be replacing a lynx 2, it's worth a try.

Which page in the boiler manual was the diagram from? I could find no reference to the rubber grommet in my manual. Many thanks.

Hello again Henry,

The Diagram that I attached part of to my previous message is not from the Potterton Lynx 2 Installation & Servicing Manual - it is from a Boiler Spares Company website here:

Potterton LYNX 2 Appliance Diagram (Inner Case, Gas & Control Pane) | Heating Spare Parts

I did not post the link in my previous message because I did not want to be seen as `Advertising` the Company - unfortunately they are showing the part that You need as `Obsolete` so you will not be able to obtain it from there.

As they cannot supply You with the part that you need I hope that it is O.K. to give you the link because it will not lead to a financial transaction.

"Good Luck" in obtaining the part.

But as You mentioned you would have to find someone who was removing a Potterton Lynx 2 and who would salvage the `Rubber Shroud` for you - I think that a `Long Shot` would be an understatement.

Regards,

Chris

Is there an alternative to this grommet?

Hello again Henry,

Unfortunately there is NOT an `alternative Part` that can be used as a substitute on the Potterton Lynx 2 Combi Boiler.

When a Part is required for a Gas Appliance ONLY `Manufacturer Approved Parts` are deemed to be `Legally Acceptable` in accordance with the Gas Safety Regulations.

NO `Improvised Parts` can be fitted - for obvious reasons.

Even IF You could find a Part that seemed to `Fit` the hole `perfectly` and even seemed to be a `Better Part` regarding quality of manufacture - it would be `Illegal` to fit it to the Lynx 2 Combi Boiler [or any other Gas Appliance] because it would NOT be a `Manufacturer Approved Part`.

Not only would You be fitting an `Unapproved / Unsuitable Part` in breach of the Gas Safety Regulations but you would also be creating a `Dangerous Situation` in terms of possibly causing the products of combustion to enter the Home / Property via the incorrect part / improperly sealed hole in the Combustion Chamber Door.

You MUST adhere to the Gas Safety Regulations by having ONLY the correct `Manufacturers Approved Part` fitted to the Boiler - the possible result of any `Improvised Part` being used is unthinkable !

Also your Insurers would definitely not cover You / your Family / your Home for any problems caused by a Gas Appliance which had `Improvised / Unapproved Parts` fitted.

I don`t mean to come across as `Pedantic` with this message Henry in the way that I have highlighted paragraphs / lines in `Bold` - but when it comes to `Gas Safety` there cannot be any ambiguity.

Regards,

Chris

Parts centre are listing it.

Hello jtsplumbing,

The Parts Center listing states that it is not available:

Potterton 222161pot rubber shroud | Parts Center

When I was looking for the `Shroud` yesterday I found a few Boiler Parts websites that listed the part but were showing it as `Obsolete` or `Unavailable`.

I looked online for quite a long time even though I was sure that it would be an `Obsolete` part which is no longer for sale anywhere.

I have attached a Screenshot picture of the part so that Members can see what I described in my first message on this thread.

Regards,

Chris

Hello, I am seeking some advice, I have a POTTERTON PROMAX 28 COMBI Boiler and I noticed yesterday that the water around the house is no longer warming up. The heat exchanger has been changed 6 months ago, so I do not believe it is that. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Thanks

Hi they used to say as a last resort you could discharge the D2 pipework at high level and turn it back to the wall. Similar to a combi boiler. I have just looked back through the regs this seems to have changed and it isn't mentioned now. It now mentions if at high level it should be discharged...
