Hi, I have just joined to understand more about the plumbing industry. If you are a plumber, can you spare me 15 minutes of your time to answer some questions? Any answers I receive will be kept confidential and not shared with anyone. Many thanks Elaine

I do not do surveys on here. Sorry. Maybe if you you explain exactly what you are after, some of the lads/lasses will be interested.

Are you doing research on plumbers and how they promote their business Elaine?

I wanted to ask questions about the plumbing business to better understand what jobs plumbers would prefer such as central heating and hot water repairs rather than a leaky tap. This is genuine research and I am not trying to sell anything. I hope that helps.

15 mins of Harvest’s time will you cost around
£ 50.00 plus vat .
Thanks for responding. I appreciate time is money for you, but if you do have a change of heart, please let me know. It could open up opportunities and doors for others who want to join your profession.

Sure if it is genuine and only 15 min of our time, - fire on ahead with posting all the questions and some of us will probably answer them.
If you don’t need our personal details, then I can’t see the problem.
One question for you though, - who are you working for ?

Why not just pose some questions and see what response you ger?

Based on the above I`m thinking...………….. You advertise and source work then using your database of plumbers and type of work they like doing you then sell the leads to them. Yes I am a cynical old git and yes I don`t understand how this could help others who want to become plumbers or is this for yet another app?

In answer to your question I am a self employed consultant who works for myself.

My questions are as follows
1. How long have you worked in the plumbing industry?
2. Are you the owner of a business?
3. What do you like and dislike about the profession?
4. Out of all the services you provide as a plumber which 5 jobs would you like to get more of and why?
5. What advice would you give someone who would like to become a plumber?
6. Are you or would you consider offering an apprenticeship?

I really do appreciate your time and if for any reason you don't feel comfortable about giving your answers here. Please let me know and I would be happy to call you directly. Many thanks Elaine

You have every right to be cynical and this is not about creating another app, selling leads but genuine research to understand more about the industry and the profession. I hope the questions I have posted explain this better. If not, I am happy to expand further ;)

1) 25 years
2) unfortunately
3)customers and plastic pipe
4)topping up boilers
Turning up room stats
Bleeding rads
Adjusting ball valves
Topping up water softeners with salt
Showing customers where their stop tap is

Cause they’re easy and I usually don’t need tools

5) plumbers are breeding like rabbits and the money is disappearing, to do a job properly is hard work.... refer to number 3 ... the latter part
6) absolutely not, coz they’re lazy feckers who never get off their phone and scream bullying if you tell them to do something ( employment law gone mad)

There.... happy?

Thank you for taking the time to answer ;)
The answers you gave for number 4 - Are these jobs that would generate more money for your business, take less time or both?

Difficult to answer some of those questions as not really always a short no or yes is suitable, but here goes, -
(1) 40 plus years if you include working as a lad
(2) Yes, largely to a negative result
(3) Like decent honest customers, small jobs no more than a couple days, heating work, especially on my own work,
Dislike demanding customers or those who try to use me solely for the low pay repairs, shoddy diy type plumbing, most plastic plumbing, push button toilets, unknown brand plumbing products, ... I could keep going.
(4) 5 jobs I would like are
Repairing or replacing ball valves,
Servicing/repairing oil boilers,
Replacing circulating pumps,
Replacing radiators
Replacing radiator valves,
(5) Avoid plumbing unless you commit to making good money at easier tasks
(6) No

In answer to your question I am a self employed consultant who works for myself.

My questions are as follows
1. How long have you worked in the plumbing industry? 42 years
2. Are you the owner of a business? Partly
3. What do you like and dislike about the profession? Like - You never stop learning. Dislike - Anyone can call themselves a Plumber & undercut the real trades person.
4. Out of all the services you provide as a plumber which 5 jobs would you like to get more of and why? 5 fault finding ones where I can use the thing between me ears, cos I am getting older.
5. What advice would you give someone who would like to become a plumber? Seek an apprenticeship & don't be fooled into thinking you can learn it any other way.
6. Are you or would you consider offering an apprenticeship? No, cos we don't do the right kind of work (but I do teach them 1 day a week)

I really do appreciate your time and if for any reason you don't feel comfortable about giving your answers here. Please let me know and I would be happy to call you directly. Many thanks Elaine
There you go Elaine I will be your second.
