joint
A joint or articulation (or articular surface) is the connection made between bones in the body which link the skeletal system into a functional whole. They are constructed to allow for different degrees and types of movement. Some joints, such as the knee, elbow, and shoulder, are self-lubricating, almost frictionless, and are able to withstand compression and maintain heavy loads while still executing smooth and precise movements. Other joints such as sutures between the bones of the skull permit very little movement (only during birth) in order to protect the brain and the sense organs. The connection between a tooth and the jawbone is also called a joint, and is described as a fibrous joint known as a gomphosis. Joints are classified both structurally and functionally.
I'm putting a new yorkshire fitting on the end of a pipe from which an old fitting has been removed. Do I need to remove all traces of old solder from the pipe end before applying the new fitting, or is it sufficient just to clean up the old solder coating in the same way as I would a 'bare'...
Hi,
Short version: I have about 4" of pipe sticking out of a concrete floor in a cupboard. It makes a 45-degree bend as it exists (bent, not with elbows), the last cm before the open end is pretty much straight, but as a result of the bend it is not perfectly round. I mean it is pretty much...
Looking to see what iron pipe part can fit a 10mm ball joint? In this pic there is a part that connects the ball joint (or whatever they are called) to the 1/2 inch pipe. I am looking to connect to a 3/4 inch pipe. Are there any threads that do this? Thanks
I have been told that in North...
I had a plumber connect slightly wider radiator with plastic pipes. I wanted to bend the pipe but he said this pipe wont bend.
So he just connected it . But i can see there is a lot of pressure on the coupling does this need to be redone? Can you bend this pipe?
We have a shower drain which has a slip joint nut. The pipe keeps coming detached, leaving the nut and washer in place/attached, as you can see in the photo (towards the top). Would PFTE tape help with this? I presume not, as the nut itself is still attached.. Thanks!
Hi
I have a leaking joint on my mains supply. The joint is where a metal service pipe is joined to blue mpde. I have never seen a joint like this before. It says it is a 25mm or 3/4”. The joint has a tapered ridged insert but when I put 25mm mpde onto it, it is very loose. Not sure if something...
So discovered a leak or weeping joint. Two elbows are attached by a 5cm copper pipe which has the blue residue on it. Also there is an imperceitble leak. The plumber will call out sometime next week so I need a temporary fix.
Whats the best solution?
Sealing putty
Self amalgam tape
Stixall or...
I have a 15mm T-junction on a cold water pipe that has a small drip from one of the joints. It is in quite an inaccessible place (in between a ceiling and the floor above). I can get access from below but there is not much clearance from the floor above. To get access from above I would need to...
Hi. I finally got the keys to my first house a few weeks ago. It's a small house so I'm doing what I can to save space. Currently, the vent pipe in the bathroom for the toilet's soil pipe is boxed into the corner of the room, against an external wall and an internal wall that is roughly 7cm...
I am hoping to put a new tap on my sister in laws sink and tidy up some of the hot and cold pipe work while I am at it. The Ikea waste pipework is in the way and I could do with disconnecting it as otherwise I am going to have difficulty making the joints on the new pipework. I enclose a photo...
Hi All,
I'm about to install a new Macerator unit in a downstairs cloakroom and was planning on using the waste pipe from the previous unit. The problem is the old UPVC 22mm has broken off inside the elbow joint that goes into the wall.
Does anyone know the best way to remove the broken part...
Hello All, I've got a small leak where the pipe of the hot water outlet of an unvented water heater joins the valve. I'm attaching a couple of photos to give an idea of the set up. Is there a good solution that doesn't involve resoldering the joint? Many thanks.
Hello,
I live in a conversion with 12 flats and we have communal heating and hot water. We have separate boilers for heating and hot water. The boiler for heating is a Potterton Dimplomat 225 (66Kw), and about 45 years old or more. If you were to take an educated guess, what kind of...
I’m wondering weather this stringy stuff (see photos) around my towel heater’s pipe joints could be some kind of fiber/string with asbestos in it? They don’t really look like hemp to me, and I’m a bit worried about it! Thanks
Hello, is it unheard of to install a mechanical boss onto a soil pipe joint? The only part of the soil pipe that is above the line of the plasterboard is the joint and I was wondering if anyone has attempted to drill into it? I can’t find any answers online so I’ll assume it’s a stupid...
Did some repairs to upstairs cistern (using a lot of advice here - thanks). Decided to fit a new concertina toilet pan connector while everything was accessible. What we bought & how it was fitted is identical to existing.
Lubricated with fairy liquid the concertina slid extremely easily into...
I have a concealed WC cistern.
The seal between the cistern tank and siphon has started to weep ever so slightly.
Access to the cistern is very difficult.
I know the correct thing would be to remove the siphon, clean the seal landings and reassemble.
However, to this I would have to get direct...
Some pictures first to illustrate my Question (I understand as new poster I can't yet put them in direct).

Hi,
Where the valves screw into the aluminium rads has started to leak (all be it not that much). The system is a ordinary pressurised sealed system. The leak is hardly enough to drop the pressure. The system has been fine for 4yr+, I guess that the rubber gasket has started to fail. I have...
