silicone
A silicone or polysiloxane is a polymer made up of siloxane (−R2Si−O−SiR2−, where R = organic group). They are typically colorless oils or rubber-like substances. Silicones are used in sealants, adhesives, lubricants, medicine, cooking utensils, thermal insulation, and electrical insulation. Some common forms include silicone oil, silicone grease, silicone rubber, silicone resin, and silicone caulk.
Looking for silicone recommendations for sealing between a metal bath and upvc wall panels. I was going for dow 785+ but someone mentioned its no good for binding to plastic and that 785n would be better. Can anyone confirm this?

Hello,
I'm installing my first Belfast/butler kitchen sink. It came with the waste and stainless steel drain. To my surprise the kit only has one washer in which the instructions clearly state that it should be placed underneath the sink. My question is, shouldn't there be a washer between the...
My bathroom Basin was installed some years ago by a professional plumber. For whatever reason, the waste was fitted using silicone rather than plumber’s mate. The floor was originally tiled, but I replaced it with high quality vinyl, when fractures began to appear in the grout. As part of this...
Hello all, just a quick "hi" as I've just joined the forum.
I'm based in the UK and am product manager for a company that provides caulking tools (the MK and Cox dispenser range).
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions related to applying silicone and other materials.
I look forward...
My tenant tells me these areas should have been siliconed? This was a new build.
The vertical shower frame (please see pictures)?
And the bottom of the shower frame that rests on the shower tray?
Hi all,
We have a Mira agile/pronta shower mixer valve attached to a tiled wall. It doesn't say in the manual but do you need to silicone around the periphery of the mixer where it meets the tiled wall? Or are they internally sealed or doesn't matter if water seeps into it from splashing etc...
Help please. I need to remove some black silicone from around bath and tiled area. Does anyone have a trusted method, tools and product that works as recommendations?
I have tenants who 'bucket bathe' in the bath causing the silicone to fail every few months and causing leak damage - is fitting no more leak tape the answer?
Installing a walk-in shower screen. When I've done this before I've always applied silicone to the inside of the screen, along the bottom where it sits on the shower tray and up the side.
The screen I'm installing has instructions which say don't do that, instead apply silicone to the outside...
Hi Guys, I'm a Plasterer and inventor and I need to pick your brains.. I have just come up with what I think is the best Silicone smoothing guide available anywhere. Check out my Silicone Soap Guide, let me know what you think ... But here's my question how do you guys do the vertical and...
Hi all
I have a leaking showing base. It’s a solid base not plastic and the walls/screen are 300mm wide plastic cladding.
It looks like the cladding comes down onto the base not behind it which I think is correct.
The leak is between them both going around the shower.
What is the best...
My bathroom was installed a few years ago and the sink waste has been glued in with silicone. Doesn't seem like just a bit, even the overflow holes are completely blocked with the stuff.
It has become a bit corroded and I have a new one to put in but all the silicone means I can't get the old...
Hi,
I have question. 2 days ago my bath hub trap got blocked so decided to replace it as they are quite cheap. In local store they sold me the all necessary equipment. I removed the old trap and installed new one. I used sanitary silicone so seal it everywhere. So I used thin layer under the...
Hi Guys,
We have a leaky kitchen mixer tap here which seems to be being caused by the plastic mixer valve/cartridge.
I had a search for the serial number but couldn't find anything matching so I thought I would take the valve apart, clean it and grease it up to see if that sorts it out.
As it...
It looks like I can't get the lovely soudal silirub+ I've used for 10 years without 1 callback on failing or mouldy seals.
What do you all use as a great all round silicone?
Am looking at Dow 785
I really like it's adhesive qualities (though my tiler hates it when trying to get the stuff...
Just having flick through latest Screwfix mailer that came through the door yesterday and they are doing their own brand silicone, caulk, adhesive... in foils wraps instead of the usual plastic tube. Its the same price but you get iirc 400ml instead of 320ml.
Has anyone got any experience of...
When installing aqua panels on a shower is it advisorable to leave a small gap 1-2mm between the tray and the bottom of the aqua panel to allow some silicon in to the joint or put the panels tight sitting on the tray and silicone over?
Hello all. Wonder if someone would be kind enough to offer an opinion. I'm coming to the end of having a loft conversion job done and have removed one of the rads to decorate behind it. Lockshield shut-off, TRV removed, decorators cap fitted and rad drained down I undo the valve nuts, and lift...
