strainer

A sieve, fine mesh strainer, or sift, is a device for separating wanted elements from unwanted material or for characterizing the particle size distribution of a sample, using a screen such as a woven mesh or net or perforated sheet material. The word sift derives from sieve.
In cooking, a sifter is used to separate and break up clumps in dry ingredients such as flour, as well as to aerate and combine them. A strainer (see Colander), meanwhile, is a form of sieve used to separate suspended solids from a liquid by filtration.

Wye strainer keeps getting blocked on boiler

I have an 18 month old boiler that was installed with a forced hot water heat loop and a HW storage tank. About 4 times a year I need to clean the strainer. It becomes so blocked that the HW loop starts banging and the water temp at the taps goes way up so you can’t hold your hand in it. I...

    Kitchen strainer plug

I have a double sink, and the small sink is about 29cm x 15cm, and 12cm deep. When filled, the water slowly drains away. I tried a simple rubber plug, and the water does not drain away. This sink is not used much, so I don't think that it is down to wear. The plug is the original plug that came...

Should I use washer or putty under sink strainer?

Looking for a bit of help please. I have a kitchen sink strainer to put in. It came with a rubber washer that goes below the sink line and with a cardboard washer that goes above the sink under the strainer. Is it better to use putty instead of the cardboard? Or do I use both?

    Sink Strainer problem

I have a corrode, crumbled Strainer thread, so cannot properly secure trap. This strainer seems to be a permanent part of the sink - not secured by a backnut and not renewable ?! Any suggestions?

    Y Strainer

Do these restrict flow at all? Someone has fitted 2 x 22mm strainers before a 3 bar shower pump and just wondered if they could be restricting flow (under normal use, not blocked with debris).

    Kitchen Sink & Basket Strainer

My kitchen sink has a 2" hole for the waste (see pic) but the basket strainer I'm fitting needs a 3 1/4" hole. Cut a bigger hole? Is the inverted 2" hole recessed to enable being cut out? Sorry for a potential idiotic question!!!!!

Installing a heat only boiler yesterday and came unstuck when fitting magnaclean to top entry pipework. what's this valve?

Hiya, Does anyone know what this valve is? I know it's partly an isolation valve, but am a bit puzzled by the slanted hexagonal part. I saw it under a basin. Is it maybe a combined pressure reducer? Thanks, Jennie
