thermal
A thermal column (or thermal) is a column of rising air in the lower altitudes of Earth's atmosphere, a form of atmospheric updraft. Thermals are created by the uneven heating of Earth's surface from solar radiation, and are an example of convection, specifically atmospheric convection. The Sun warms the ground, which in turn warms the air directly above it. A thermal is a rising mass of buoyant air, a convective current in the atmosphere, that transfers heat energy vertically.
Morning,
Does anybody know what happens to a solar thermal flat panels (a pair on south facing slate roof) that have been unused for at least 12 months possibly year before also. System has been switched of due to loss of pressure. How will last years heat wave conditions have effected the panel...
Hello
My solar thermal system appears to be leaking fluid (pics attached). Could anyone give me an indication of what the issue is likely to be and the potential cost to rectify?
The system was installed in May 2021 and has a flat plate panel on the roof. It works very well generally and...
Hi, Solar thermal not so big these days but a couple of Q for anyone who still works in it.
Background. I'm an Electrician not a plumber.. I've been maintaining my otherwise excellent solar thermal (Original install MCS by Others), for the last ~ 18 years, over which time I've needed to clean...
Hi, I am getting my old hot water cylinder tank replaced (my property has no boiler as it is a full electric property). My plumber suggested changing to a thermal store. He is a competent plumber but are there any certificates that I need to ask for, is this notifiable work and would you...
Looking to have Gledhill Boilermate SP150 Pre Plumbed installed to replace current aging Systemate 2000. So looking for any advice / experience with this system as can not find any so far. Thanks
As I recently had my HW cylinder replaced and we had to leave disconnected the solar thermal system from the HW cylinder and drained out the old glycol. What is involved in re-filling the thermal system with new glycol in terms of number of hours of labour and materials? I got a quote for a bit...
According to the manufacturer's information OV PULSAcoil thermal stores are primarily designed for use with on/off peak electricity but also have two open pipe spigots (NO internal coil) for flow and return from an additional heat source e.g. a heat only boiler. The 180 store comes with a...
Hello,
So I want to add a solar thermal system to my existing Worcester bosch greenstar but don't want to lose the functional benefits of the combi boiler.
I'm proposing to install the solar collector on the side of the house in a position that will enable gravity flow to a 200litre tank just...
I'm renovating my house which has a standard Vaillant boiler and tank in the cellar, and a tank in the loft. The house will have 2 bathrooms, and is a largish Victorian house (3 floor, but bathrooms are on half landings, at 1.5 and 2.5). Will have UFH on ground floor
I've had the lead main...
Do thermal stores have the DHW coil mounted high up in the cylinder, nearly right at the top?.
If so, and assuming a 300 litre store at 75C and if you draw off 100 litres of HW at 40C from cold at 6C do the whole contents of the store then fall, to 64C?. (63.8)
So...got called to this earlier on, the install looks a bitnof a mess but looking past that the system seems like quite a simple setup though i am failing to find a schematic for this particular type of thermal store where we have 4 immersers which all on would be producing 12kw and an open...

Thanks
Hi, I've inherited a FlowMaster thermal store combination cylinder, and hoped that someone could tell me what temperature the stored water needs to be kept at? I've never had a thermal store before and would welcome any advicemany thanks,
David
Hi, sorry to bother you all with this but I am really struggling to find a suitable combi-boiler replacement and a knowledgeable heating engineer to discuss options. Ive tried to note as much relevant details below - apologies if its too long or irrelevant. Any help most gratefully received...
I had solar thermal installed recently, the system is a viessmann and goes with our viessmann boiler. The controls are on the boiler, seems to work well.
I spoke to viessmann technical after the install and they and the install advised to change the water heating from the boiler to only come on...
Hi
I have a worcester boiler and one of the settings is 3-d1 (Pump range map) as attachment below
Now the installer has set it away from the default of 250mbar to proportional to the thermal output and also changed 3-d3 to 30%.
The issue I now have is that with the zones fully open then...
If my mates in the Electrician's Forum see me in here, jus' tell I got lost, alright ;)
So, I was called out to the home of a good client. They have a thermal solar installation but were not completely clear of the difference - hence calling in a sparky and I was interested as to how thermal...
I’d like some advice and opinions please.
I have a 150 year old stone cottage ( 2 foot thick solid stone walls) some roof insulation and double glazed windows in a very cold exposed hill top position in the north western Yorkshire Dales.
we are planning to put underfloor heating downstairs and...
I had a solar thermal cylinder installed last week.
The installers had an issue with one of the valves and installed a 15mm pipe (see red arrow in picture) instead of the 22mm at the valve. Is this going to be an issue?
The 15mm then feeds into the larger 22mm. However, my concern is that...
Hello, hope you're all enjoying the bank holiday weekend.
I have a customer with a Dedicated Pressure System (DPS) Heat Bank System (Thermal Store).
If they run one bath/shower, it's fine. If they try to run two at once the water at both is barely even warm.
I know the house has been extended...
