Hi
Ive been recently asked to provide evidence of thermostatic valves on all baths and showers at a care home for the gcq and im just wondering how i go about this. Are there qualifications i need to have or is the some kind of paper work i can buy to properly document this. Eg like a cp12. Never done it before .

I have had dealings with the quaity care commision you need to produce 2 copies of the manufactures installation and maintenance instructions in a folder with the relevant paperwork insuring that they are all TMV3 the dates they were and where they are installed if new , the commissioning date and eviedence that they fail safe meaning if the cold supply should fail they shut down to a trickle of hot water or less this can be on a headed spread sheet . the blending valves should be thermostatically checked regularly at least every 6 months . you keep a folder for your records and pass the other on to them or via the main contractor, bear in mind you are putting your neck on the line so dont cut corners and use quality products ie Mira Koler , Hornes mixers or similar . hope this help regards k

The care homes should have a record of temperature testing at hot water outlets, properly recorded in a folder. This could be done once a week by their maintenance man. Testing of the shut down/cold water failure, can be done when servicing the valves/ filters, over a more extended period.
From my own experience, CQC are focused on documentation. The care home needs to demonstrate it has, in place, a proactive audit for all its activities. The quality of the actual care, given to the residents, is a secondary consideration.

The valve manufacturer should be able to give you a spreadsheet for all the documentation you require.

That's the easy bit.

The next bit is time consuming with location of each valve & date valve was installed.
Then you have to do periodic testing of temperature of each valve and depending on the manufacturer, you may have to strip the valve down annually to replace o-ring's and filters.
The thermostat may have to be replaced every 3 - 5 years.

Logging and itemizing what you have done and documenting each valve takes more time than testing the valve.

You had better do it right, because if someone get scolded - you want to have yourself covered.

Get a third party who tests this equipment to do it, then you wont be liable.

As above

Also they prob need legionnaires tests done once a month

I was stupid enough not to check the position of the pipes under the tiles when installing a toilet and drilled right through the center of a 16 mm copper water pipe. I exposed the pipe by removing a ~30cm section of the plastic sleeve and a ~10 cm section of the pipe around the hole. Several...

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
