Hello,

There’s a ‘drain rodding point’ which lies in the alleyway exactly between mine and my neighbours house, equidistant between the outsides of downstairs toilets in both properties. This evening I noticed that the cover was loose and an area about 1 metre squared covered in waste (toilet paper etc). Nasty. Am I right in thinking this has simply ‘exploded out’ and indicates a major blockage? There doesn’t seem to be much information on similar happening. Also, is this likely to be a shared pipe or will it belong to either property?

Thanks in.advance for help.

I would say it needs investigation

It may be a blockage that built up a bit more pressure than the rodding eye could handle. The pipe should really belong to one of you, its unlikely to be shared.

If the blockage is in a shared section of drain or lies outside your property's boundary, it is likely to be the responsibility of the water company.
