That are addable to as a sticky would be really handy for us newcomers!
 
To be honest there aren't that many abbrieviations/acronyms in plumbing.

DHW is domestic hot water. CH is central heating.

PRV can be pressure reducing valve or pressure relief valve so these two are usually not abbreviated as they do different things. EV is expansion vessel. E/F is end feed. mm is millimeter. m is metre. cm is something amateurs and diyers use.

Bill is another word for invoice. Custard is another word for customer (but not all of us use this expression.)

E, L and N are usually Earth, Live and Neutral - please don't ask which colour does what though!

To be honest I'm fairly hard pushed to think of many others.
 
another one that people on this site use that i was stuck with when i joined was "imho" which is "in my honest opinion"
 
I always thought it was humble! And it took me yonks until I learned that LOL wasn't lots of love :eek::eek:

abbreviations make posting a lot easier one thing i have noticed some of you have wondered what imho or as pauls just said aps means one thing that eludes me why dont you just ask??????? all will be revealed

HLBF -high level balanced flue
CF - conventional flue

EF - end feed
SR - solder ring
CF - compression fitting
BSPT British Standard Pipe Taper thread
BSP - British Standard Pipe (parallell thread)

CC - closed coupled (wc cistern)
LL - low level
HL - High level

not many for plumbing but hundreds for gas its one thing that drives me mad i often have to re read articles in the gas mags to make head or tail of the abbreviations

A/F - across flats (on a spanner)
BTU - British Thermal Unit
HP - High Pressure (Tap/Shower)
LP - Low Pressure (Tap/Shower)
W - Watts
V - Volts


ASAP - As soon as Possible
FYI - For your information
GOSH - Good Sense Of Humour and dyslexic :D:D:D:D
 
TD- temperature difference.
HLC heat loss calculations.
CWSC- cold water storage cistern.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO ADJUST THIS MIXER UNIT? WE HAVE TO HAVE IT TURNED ALMOST FULLY ANTI CLOCKWISE TO GET HOT WATEROUT. THE FRONT PLATE WITH MIRA ON IT PRISES OFF AND INSIDE THERE ARE SOME PLASTIC BITS AND A SMALL CROSS-HEAD SCREW IN THE MIDDLE. THANKS
