Hi lads ,

I have seen an gas pipe installation of mapress which doesn’t have the yellow stamp on it. In Germany you are allowed to install the normal fittings on domestic gas pipes but on commercial you will need to use the fittings with those special marks due the yellow olives which are high temperature resistance of 650 degrees for 30min. To be honest when the temperature last a couple of minutes the solder or rubber will melt anyway.

However, could anyone tell me what’s the requirements over here on those fittings? Do I need to use the special gas fittings or is it possible to use the standard mapress fittings.

The only difference is the rubber which can stand higher temperature for longer period of time.

Still unacceptable as the person who comes after you doesn't know they have been replaced with gas suitable orings

Are you sure it doesn't have a stamp on will only be on one face

If your sure they've just used normal ones then it's an ar if not leaking and Id if it is

NO its not leaking a to at all ... yeh they haven’t forbid a yellow stamp but a green one which indicates you can use it for both in Germany but here in uk only for central heating and water.

I ordered them now and will change it as customer has requested it.

One other question:

Customer asked me to install a boiler boiler here inside the kitchen which will be a Vaillant.

Do I need a plume kit or will the distance to the eave or pitched little roof be enough it’s about 4 bricks thickness distance ... please below you can see the pictures.

The space to the window looks like definitely 300mm ... so how would you judge it ?

i would say thats fine

if you allow this generally but if unsure have a look at mi

300 to a building opening / air brick

300 below a soffit

25 below a soffit but must come past the gutters etc

Viega 79855 | Capitol Group

These type of viega fittings. We use them in Germany for domestic gas, heating, and hot / cold water supplies ... these fittings have the black o ring.

The yellow stamped ones are for commercial gas as they are HTB - high temperature resistant up to 650 degrees for 30min. These have yellow o rings.

It wouldn’t make a sense to me as the solder would melt by about 330-350 degrees.

But obviously I will stick to the rules over here no question. I am just curious what weird rule it is.


I believe a soffit is the eave or whatever you call the little roof lip?

The yellow rings are made if a different rubber that is suitable for gas. Nitrile I believe.

Black are epdm
Brown for oil
White for steam
Can't remember the others

That’s the fittings right use in Germany for ch,hot and cold water, and gas but only domestic.

That's four or five floors up, how would you install a plume kit if you need too, scaffolding?

Cherry picker or scaffolding if need be ... what can I do if that would have been required... can’t afford cutting corners not my type of work though.
