365drills

Question asked to 365-Drills by customer of diamond core drills.

I want to drill a hole into a ceramic lamp (even glass) and I want to know what size diamond core drill bit I should buy to drill the hole.

I want it big enough to get the socket through but not so big that the lamp fitting will drop through.

The simple answer (Having grabbed a lamp from the office) Is that you will need a 30mm hole.

So you need a 30mm diameter diamond core drill

A 30mm diameter diamond core tile drill from ********* will mean that you can cut the perfect hole into both glass, ceramic and even porcelain. They are not just tile drills.

The bayonett of the light fitting or the lamp will slip through the 30mm diamond drill hole and the nut will tighten with ease.

We recommend that you dont drill bigger holes (for example 32mm) or smaller holes (for example (28mm) Because they will not work.

Good news the 30mm comes as its own pack:

Or its also part of a set (The Bathroom Fitters Kit)

http://*********.com/jpgs/kit2.jpg

The 30mm is sold with the 40mm diamond core. A 16mm diamond core. A 6mm and 8mm diamond core (x2)

At £49.99 for the kit (Works out £7 a diamond drill) its superb value for money. And it gets the job done too.

Holding the diamond core steady can be tricky without a pilot drill. If you do not have access to a fixed pillar drill (bench drill) then the diamond cores can slip and slide all over the stone.

To eliminate this the kits all come with anti-slip guide plates. A patented system from 365Drill (Full patent - Not "Patent applied for")

And it prevents the drill from wandering plus it eliminates the need for a pilot drill.

If you need any help we are available 24 hours a day (thats why we are called 365 Drills) and we can answer your technical questions.

This post was as a direct response to a customer question so we thank them for raising it. So if you need to drill a hole for a lamp fitting then you need the 30mm core.

Like the above.

If you want to do other things (like drill a hole for flex etc) then other sizes come in to play.

I could do with a sponge as the pack I bought didn't include one even though it said it did on the pack...

Send me an email and I will get you one out. (richard@*********.com) Note: The packs do not get sent out with water cooling sponges as standard. They are an optional extra. Too many people were complaining that they were getting sponges they didnt need when they order 10 sets at a time. (True!) So we decided to keep the price down (from £59.99 to £49.99) and not include the sponge or toolpack.

Anway - EMail and will send.

Fair enough and makes sense. The only reason I asked was because the packaging said it was included and it didn't have one in. I called up the supplier and they said it wasn't included. Just a little confused.

Thanks for the offer!

I have to admit that was a TINY packaging printing error which was missed before going to print on a batch of 10,000 backing cards.....

The instructions on the existing packaging say: "Keep the holesaw cool with the water sponge provided"

The words should have read

"Keep the holesaw cool with a water sponge"

However if anyone who has bought packs from us did not get a water cooling sponge - and wants one - then just email me and we can get one out in the post easily enough.

Yes stupidly we decided to revamp the look. So changed the ENTIRE product range which is in effect 50+ different sets and sizes.

http://*********.com/google/16mm.jpg

Packaging Before

http://*********.com/google/30mm.jpg

Packaging after....

There are well over 50 different sizes and pack combinations. But the only way the printers would do a decent deal on price is to run 10,000 off.

Thats because there are special weld slots in the backing cards which have to be punched out. Its to hold the stock in place.

But that adds to the cost of small runs. Of course the down side is that if you make a mistake on the printing..... Hmm !

And of course the back of the insert with the instuctions has the SAME words on all 10,000 cards.

And we made a blunder! But I couldnt be bothered to put 10,000 labels over the top.
