Q

quickbhoy

Hi
When i run hot water out of my immersion heater (no central heating), a loud groaning and vibrating starts and only stops if i run the cold tap or flush the toilet. Some times it takes ages for the noise to stop. This began after changing the ballcock in the head tank over 6 months ago, the noise and vibration stopped a week after fitting new ballcock but has come back since the cold weather began? I assume it's air somewhere, can anybody help please?:confused5:

Hello
Thanks for helping. I'm not entirely sure, i think it's a high pressure float? Is there a high or low pressure float? It has a long arm with a cylinder/oval float?
Thanks again, most appreciated.

Have you checked the mains pressure ? Pressure reducing valve maybe needed.

Hi
i'm not sure how to check water pressure? When old ball valve needed changing due to rust and overflow problems, i changed it without knowing which type it was! What a tool! Plumbing knowledge minuscule!

Thanks for advising a serial:confused5::confused5:div!

a simple way to fix this is to turn your stop tap down... the water board turn the water pressure up in winter to avoid freezing mains and bursts (although i cant see how ) the more pressure can cause the noise until u release some more pressure (turning cold tap on ) turn it down and watch the noise dissapear... also its possible that your stop tap wasnt origanilly fully open when you had the valve replaced therefor when you reopened it , by mistake you opened it fully... this has worked for me on numerous occasions at peoples houses..try it !! might not be the right solution but im pretty sure it will solve ur problem
