Welcome to the forum. Although you can post in any forum, the USA forum is here in case of local regs or laws

I have just connected a dishwasher to existing washing machine connection to the cold water line. However there is now a leak from cold water pipe leading upto the tap under the sink, any help would be appreciated

Have patience kev! No good posting 3 times in different forums!
Water runs downhill so trace leak to the start point and check the connection there.

Apologies for that, the thing is a haven't touched the cold water pipe leading upto the tap, that's where the leak is coming from, I just put a y adaptor for dishwasher. All connections seem to be ok

Now you know how we feel when we get blamed for something we haven`t touched!

Regardless of whether you touched it or not the advise given is still the same > Trace the source of the leak.

If it's leaking out of the centre of the valve where you turn the water on and off you can't repair it. Needs to be replaced, ideally with a lever valve to avoid the problem in the future.

AH! The dreaded ball-O-Fix valve, designed to leak when you as much as look at it! lol
Best bet is to replace it as that one has seen better days imho.
