Murky water in the morning

Had a new WC fitted in downstairs cloakroom and we find the water in the pan to be murky in the mornings. Queried it with the plumber and he said there could be a blockage in the pipe to the sewer. Have checked and it does not appear to be that. Outlet from the pan appears to be a little lower than the old removed one and therefore the discharge pipe goes uphill very slightly to where it joins the stack. Could this be the problem and should it have been installed in that way? Any help would be appreciated.

no it should not run up hill, is the stack cast iron? if it is could be rusty water from the stack running back down into the spigot of the pan turning the water murky?

Hi sue and welcome to the forum. On my first day at plumbing school many years ago I was told rule number one poo must always run downhill. I'd get your plumber back.

It's waste water seeping back into the pan overnight. I would still get your plumber back even if it was over a year since it was fitted, he has done a poor job if the waste has to go uphill. If I had done that ( and I wouldn't) I would want to know about it and would put it right.

To be fair it could be an honest mistake, we are all human and can lose concentration at times.

It has happened since it was installed. My husband at first thought I was imagining it and them decided I wasn't flushing it properly. athr flush was not correct and you had to hold the button down until the flush ended. We contacted manufacturer who told us how to adjust the button. It now flushes properly but the problem remains with the water in the morning. Sometimes worse that other times.

Thank you for your help. Will do. The comment about it not being a remedy was not directed at you but regarding the suggestion to put a blue in the tank!

Sue, depending on how far off it is, you may be able to improve it by adding an offset connector (upside down) like pictured here. Only thing is , i guess you could end up with a deeper bowl of water and the flush may not be as effective. Or raise the toilet on a plinth? or change it for one with a higher outlet, they do vary.

Get the plumber ???? back, No gravity soil pipe runs upbank


Take a photo of the soilpipe as it comes thru the external wall and its run to the main stack, then post it on here
