What do you do - hot water?

Hi Friends

I need to fit a new hot water tap in kitchen but looking everywhere there is no valve anywhere to turn hot off.

What would you do? It's a real pain.

The cold is fine, it has an isolation valve but not on hot!!!!

combi - isolate cold
hot water cylinder, is there no gate valve fitted? drain cold tank and fit one
then do the tap

Ive never frozen a pipe but may need to do.

Have drained tank before and got an airlock, crapped myself!!! Did it in the end though.

Do as Simon f has said. I wouldn't freeze a pipe because you don't want to isolate and drain. Overkill.

Regarding the air lock.
I've had it myself. I just switched on the hot tap in the bath, Then sucked on it until the water came through.
The customer came in at that point and the look on her face was a picture.
It worked though.:lol:

If it is fed from a tank, bung the tank connector and stick a valve on at the tank.

If it's a header tank that supplies the hot water system you could put a rubber bung into the outlet (from inside the tank). That would enable you to install an isolation valve and/or replace your hot water tap.

Once drained and isolated with a Iso valve on the hot tap and having one on the cold, if it does airlock put a filling loop on both iso valves the cold mains will force the air out.

Im sure there will be a gate vslvd in the cold water into the bottom of the hot water cylinder. If not, as Tamz says, bung the cold tank but then stick a lever valve in the tank fill, better for the long term. You could then fit your kitchen isolator.
