Why would my some of my radiators come on when the hot water is on?

We moved in in November so not sure if this was an on going issue the previous owner did nothing about

It could be a piping issue or a 3 port valve issue. Your best bet will be to get a local heating guy in to have a look for you.

Its probably a dodgy diverter valve if you have a combi, or faulty zone valve if its a system boiler. But better call an gas engineer, to check it out.

as said, you need someone to take a look.
it could even be a old system with a summer/winter manual valve,
who knows without seeing.
or provide more info and pictures

if its a really old system it could be the bathroom radiator is taken from the primary circs so itcomes on whenever the hot water is on

it is quite common round here to find old systems with one or maybe two rads (usually bathroom and/or landing piped in such a way as they come on when hot water is selected.

essentially this is done to ensure that there is still a heatloss bypass in the event that the motorised valve/s fail.

it is also common to find that some idiot who doesnt understand heating systems has come along and added a rad or two to the system and teed of the same ho****er part of the circuit resulting in 2/3/4 rads that heat up when they shouldnt.

it is possible to remedy the situation, but i would strongly suggest you get someone in who understands how these systems work.

depending on the system you may have to keep at least one rad operating on the ho****er as a bypass.

Sounds like someone has added a few rads onto the wrong part of the circuit then. As said it can be remedied.

numerous possibilities as to the cause, as mentioned get someone in, preferably someone who looks a bit older and knows older systems and how they work.

Same happens in my house its the diverter valve at mine so could be same problemo

Some more info.
The problem is intermittent

Had the Valve replaced but problems persist. The Central heating controls register everything is off but the boiler is still chugging away. Only way to turn everything off is to turn the system off in the garage.

also the heating controls have been replaced

Any ideas?

Your better off choosing a decent heating engineer instead of a plumber as most domestic electricians (not all) are rubbish when it comes to heating controls

This could be a case of the hot water return from cylinder not being piped in correct & to stop the problem of some rads heating up a inline check valve has been fitted, this has failed and is allowing water around part of heating system
