Nice to see others agree British gas and Home care cover is a rip off

Is it worth paying for boiler cover? | Mail Online

Joe Brown had been paying £18.20 a month for nearly three years for British Gas Homecare cover when he experienced problems. He had signed up for boiler insurance in January 2006 after an inspector checked over the boiler and told him that, yes, it could be covered.
But in October 2008, after Joe had paid more than £600 in premiums, his hot water cylinder developed a leak. As cylinders were included in the policy cover, Joe called British Gas and an engineer was sent round.
Joe, 66, a retired engineer from Stockton-on-Tees who specialised in devising instrument panels for power stations, refineries and offshore oil rigs, was in for a nasty surprise. British Gas told him that it wouldn't pay because the cylinder was not in fact covered - it was too old. Fixing it would have been akin to an 'upgrade'. British Gas engineers did the work, which did not go smoothly, and charged him £350.

Would just add the articule mentions boilers over 10 years old would be up for insurers to say to old need a new boiler,oh sorry, new boiler not covered but infact insurers will try it on with boilers over seven years

people dont understand that they work on volume ie x thousand people paying 30.00 a month interest on this amount is huge and more than covers all outlay
so thay pay 300.00 a year and then think they are getting a good deal after 3 years when they need a 400.00 repair:confused::confused:
