I agree, and why can't they come up with a decent way to fix them down. Bloody screws and brackets that never have enough counter top to engage on because the carcass underneath is edge to edge.Its makes my blood boil you wouldn't buy a boiler and not be able to connect pipe to it!! Might be just me but it always puts doubt in my mind if I'm using the right fitting.

sillicone should be avoided really, use the manufacturers seal as the hob will need to be removed for service/repair.
as for connecting a gas supply, its crazy that theres no ideal standard solution.
it also does not help most kitchen fitters cant cut worktop very straight or to size.
