Hope someone can help.

We had problems with our boiler -gurgling and water sounds. Plumber came and replaced pump - he said however that pipes still struggling due to blockage in u bend which must be sorted. He said however will be fine for few weeks. Boiler still not great but working just but strangely when heating is on the water level in the big cold tank in the loft subsides whilst being refilled via ball valve. Is this usual - we are away for a couple of weeks and I am worried we will return to a new water feature in the house ! Many thanks.
