Warning:

DO NOT USE PORSADRILL DIAMOND CORE DRILL BITS WITH ROTOZIP

We attended site today where a main contract stated an operator was having a real problem drilling holes into travertine and marble.

On arrival we found that the operator has substituted Rotozip bits with PORSADRILL diamond core drills.

Arrived on site to find out what the problems were:

Found the PORSADRILL diamond core drills laying about as per the clients order.

Observed the operators working. The complaint was that the material was really
and I mean REALLY difficult to drill into.

The PORSADRILL diamond cores had in fact been used.

But they had been fitted into a 110v Rotozip unit

Under no circumstances should PORSADRILL diamond cores be used with this machine.

The original diamond core supplied with the unit had burnt out (thats the piece top right)
But if you fit PORSADRILL diamond cores into the unit it runs so fast that the water used to cool the core cant touch it.

The unit is set to one single speed. 30,000RPM (Yes THIRTY THOUSAND)

So that the water simply is forced away byhttps://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=...a=X&ei=eETPUNukBOva0QWxvYDIBg&ved=0CDQQvwUoAAcentrifugal forces. And the core simply boils.

We managed to drill the holes above but we had to literally JET water into the hole to have even a remote chance of access.

PORSADRILL IS A FANTASTIC PRODUCT IF USED CORRECTLY.

You must use in a normal drill. Either a hand held drill (110v or 240v makes no difference)
Or a battery held hand drill.

When Porsadrill is used at these lower speeds it actually drills though the material faster and cleaner.
But you must use water to keep it cool.

The PORSADRILL cores are designed to be ultra thin. The metal is wafer thin to wick heat away quickly.
But it needs that water contact.

At 30,000rpm there is simply no chance of the tool being allowed to cool so it will simply glow red and then fail.

The material being drilled is actually very very soft. Its a resin based marble effect.
So you really do have to be very careful about what equipment you use.

In this case some operator training was provided. They will bring a drill to site in the morning.
And the work will continue very quickly and with a lot less burnt out cores.

Please do not use or combine PORSADRILL with Rotozip or any other high speed grinder. You may cause damage to the equipment, to the material being drilled, yourself or someone else.

Please only use PORSADRILL with a standard drill

Cant comment on the Rotozip but the PORSADRILL range should be used in a standard drill to get maximum lifespan out of the cores.

1) Use water cooling

We provide a water cooling sponge if needs be.

2) Dont apply too much pressure.

Used well the 16mm pack of two should last for about 70 holes in 12mm thick Porcelain tiles.

any reason why ?

The porsadrill stuff is a waste of money for trades, they only last a few holes, ok for diy, spend the extra and get a decent diamond core set.

Luckily thats not the feedback we get having sold thousands of sets.

For Gas Safe engineers we sell via Corgi Direct.

Product on sale here

The only times PORSADRILL gets poor user feedback is if the instructions have not been followed.

Mostly by installers failing to use water (or enough of it)

99% of buyers get on with the product.

I have been on the tools long enough to know how to use them, the actual problem is very poor quality cores (most likely re-branded and re-packaged Chinese rubbish) it even states on the packaging it will only drill between 2 to 6 holes in porcelain, compare that to all well known brands and it instantly becomes obvious just how poor the product is.

Fine for a diyer doing a single bathroom, but to even remotely suggest that these are good enough for people who do it for a living is, quite frankly, a complete lie.

Well as I say, lucky for us that nobody else thinks the same.

UK product, Jobs for the UK in a UK factory. Time proven.

We export all over the world bringing cash into the economy and creating more jobs. Product is well proven and the only time we get any issues
is when (like the site above) People cant read instructions

"Drill Slowly" on the pack translates to "Drill as fast as you can - 30,000RPM" to some.

OK so we get the point. You are not a fan of the product. But its so lucky for our company that there are many thousands who swear by it.

And thats great for employment and great for installers. Now shall we all just have a good Christmas and then get on with 2013.

PS: Many thanks to NEW ZEALAND for your order of 5000 kits which were exported and sold this year.

Its not PRETTY. Its not exciting. But we make a great product and the rest of the world buys it.

At least when I sit down and eat my Christmas dinner I will do so knowing we actually make a product
that is being made here and the food I eat is due to hard work and graft 12 hours a day 7 days a week.

And when I pay my tax bill in January it will go towards digging us out of this recession.

you might want to change the thread title as it reads" do not use porsadrill diamond core drill" at first glance in the threads column, not the best of product advertising on the site, prehaps "danger when using 365 drill and rotazip"
