Hi all,

I'm posting here on behalf of my flatmate who's from Lithuania. His spoken English is pretty good but he finds writing more difficult, which is why I'm posting for him!

He spent 6 years working as a domestic plumber back home in Lithuania. At the moment he's working as a dry liner here in London, but he's keen to get back into plumbing. Ideally working for himself, but willing to start off working for a firm as a way into the profession so long as he can earn as much as he's earning as a dry liner now (I think about £60/day).

Can anyone advise if he's employable straight away, or if he needs to get some qualifications, eg to get Corgi registered and know about water regs? Obviously he can't afford to give up his current job to train full-time. He's been looking at distance learning courses like Train 4 Trade Skills, but they seem so expensive, and looking at the feedback on this site a lot of it isn't good. Is there an easier way to get just those qualifications he needs, rather than a whole course teaching him about plumbing, which he doesn't need?

Very grateful for any advice :) I did try to post this in the 'courses' section but it says you need 10 posts first, so sorry if this is in the wrong place...
