Can't find some threads on here I saw a while ago so I'll start a new one.

Customer had a Primatic combination cylinder (I thought they were only done as regular cylinders) and he wanted a direct replacement.

There was some confusion as to whether it can be done or not.
You can't get Fortic Primatic's anymore so they can't be installed; but you can still get Single Feed Indirect cylinders, which is what Primatic's were.
Fortic Primatic was a trade name like Hoover.

I bought the cylinder from Active Plumbing; the man said manufacturers still make them and we still sell them, so they cannot be illegal.

But only installed as a direct replacement, and they are Part L1 B compliant of Building Regs, which is existing dwellings.

I had looked on here but there was not a definitive answer.

Interestingly College said you can't get them anymore and to replace with Indirect; but customer made it clear he didn't want that as the additional pipework would be exposed going along and up.

But are illegal on new builds as not L1 A compliant.

Yes you can still buy single feed in directs (primatics )
Only for use as replacements
All new build requires potable water so no storage tanks. Everything is mains fed.

I haven't seen Primatics anywhere, the single feed indirect that I bought was sold as a single feed indirect, no mention of Primatic anywhere, apart from merchant of course who knew what he was on about.

The cylinder I bought was made by Telford's.

Primatic is a brand name. The proper name is single feed indirect.
Cut the top off the old one and see how they work.

Have not seen the brand name Primatic anywhere.

The cylinder I took out had over a bucket of limescale and some difficult stairs; so had to cut it open to empty it, had a butchers at the same time.

That said, computer was playing up and not sure what the results were that it were giving me, there was quite a lot that explained how they work, but not where I could buy them.

Primatics were sold under the brand name of Fortic, now owned by kingspan. It was their own name for a single feed cylinder. (page 15 of here https://www.kingspanenviro.com/docs...er-hot-water-cylinders-brochure.pdf?sfvrsn=13 )

Macmatics was/is McDonald engineering's name for a single feed cylinder http://www.mcdonald-engineers.com/sites/mcdonald/files/downloads/macmatic_data_sheet.pdf.

There were others but i can't remember the names.
Stop overthinking things.

Btw you can buy them from any merchants that takes your fancy.

Regardless of availability and swopping like for like.

Most other components on the indirect side (modern boiler, valves etc) will require inhibitors to meet warranties. Inhibitors cannot be used with any form of single feed indirect cylinder (SFID). They are a thing of the past, move forward and install an indirect cylinder and F&E in compliance with the current regulations and the parts will most probably cost less that the price of a one off SFID.

I fully agree, but it was what customer wanted and didn't want to know about alternatives.
