Evening all,

To all you professional plumbers out there. I need your honest views on the following.

I live in property that was built in the 1960's. The main drain system is cast iron. It is outdated, I know, but I can't afford at this time to have it upgraded. About 9 months ago, a plumber was hired to do some work on my shower. At the point where the drain from the shower enters the main drain, which is cast iron, he used common bathroom sealer, which is now beginning to leave the plastic piping he installed. Views please.

no you can get adapters

Hello plumben, Thank you for you quick response. The plastic adaptors you refer to, does that mean there would be no need for the bathroom mastic sealer? I also need more information on the adaptors, please.

Cast iron stack usually has copper waste pipes. Usually cut them near the stack and use compression waste fittings to join to it in plastic.

He should have used some sort of boss strap. Did he just drilled the iron and put the plastic in, then mastic?

Not the most ideal way but to be fair i have seen it used a million times and if its supported plenty i have never seen an issue other than that its a touch rough .
