Hi all,
A 3 bedroom semi-detached Late 1920's house. Prior to extending it had a shower/toilet on ground floor and a shower and bath/toilet on first floor. Pressure seemed fine for showers although occasionally when kitchen tap opened you do notice a drop in pressure.
Existing set up:
Potterton Combi 80 Boiler for Hot water and heating - now at the point of needing to be changed.
All radiators and most pipework are recent i.e within last 7 years (except one curved one in living room)
It appears all pipework in 2 existing bathrooms are 15mm and i assume the feed to them from biler is also 15mm
The combi boiler is located on the ground floor at the back of the house. This would be the same location for future boiler/arrangement.
After extension: A loft extension (with ensuite power shower) and a garden room with preperation shower/toilet (rarely likely to be used as for a small gym)
Both new bathrooms are 15mm piped and i assume the feed to the bathrooms is 15mm from boiler.
I am due to get the Driveway re done and they suggested getting the main supply to the house increased to a larger pipe i assume 22mm? Happy to do that.
My dilemma is I have an arrangement where by the company that has almost completed the loft extension agreed to install a new (supplied by me) Combi-boiler to the house (looking at WorcesterBosch or Valiant or Potterton).
A friend suggested installing a Heat only boiler and then add a mega flow to supply the hot water to the bathrooms.
Can anyone suggest what would be the most practical way of setting this house up so it is economical but fit for purpose in teh future. Mainly that someone could use two bathrooms or open a kitchen tap and not have any significant issues with supply.
I am aware that there are combination boilers that have storage units attached with them but not sure if they are suitable for this set up of house over 3 floors.
Some concerns with Mega flow and heat only boiler are whether i would need to change all the internal pipes to 22mm to the showers and bath and basins (as one person suggested) or whether they can put a 22mm run to the bathroomsand leave the existing 15mm from there. Will it make any difference to leave it all at 15mm (easiest option but i suspect wrong) or part install 22mm up to te rooms and then have 15mm (manageable i think) or change eeverything to 22mm (less practical as all bathrooms are tiled and installed).
Or is there another option?
I am happy to supply any information about the system and flow rate if you want.
