REDSAW

h/w storage tank in bathroom cupboard, galvanised and is leaking. old 28mm gravity feed to back of 1960's cylinder no access to joints, lead pipe feeds.

eventually found a tank to fit at £45+vat and £35 comp fittings + valve, pipe o/flo etc.
plan was to cut pipes free of cylinder so as to not disturb conections and re-make.
i estimate between 3 and 4 hours from collecting materials and fettling out old tank and installing new.

i quoted £257 all in expecting a ballache. was told by the old boy too feckin much no thank you and hung up?

too much????:confused5:lol

Too much , Jesus he would nt have even got a quote of me, job like that ' hourly rate ' and an estimate

Your best off away from tools like that anyway, i had a customer few days ago ask how much to fit a towel rail, do u have the towel rail i asked , yes she replied, i said do u have valves no she said , ok il supply valves , do you have a floor down in your bathroom , yes she said its tiled and i dont want them touched im happy with you just puuting bends in above the floor, ok i said including the valves youl be £45 for labour and a set of valves, she said oh thats quite dear,--- my jaw hut the deck,, wowser

Without looking at the job I would be allowing a full day for it, nothing worse then hitting a snag at the end of the day!

Minimum charge to fit a towel rail would be £84 plus vat labour plus valves. That's if it's easy and on a sealed system. £45 is way cheap. It always amazes me when people say you are to expensive on prices like that and I wonder are people actually doing it CHEAPER!! There not the type of customers you want any way if that are moaning at those prices.

Good job you over priced it Martin or you could have been landed with a very awkward job ....lol regards Turnpin:punk:

Maybe if you'd thrown in a free BJ the bloke would have given you the job.
Worked for me a few times...

I think some people genuinely think you work for £10 an hour and all parts are £5.

I would of been looking £100-£130 labour + parts.

£45!!! I would be looking minimum 2hrs charge so for me £70-100 if it was on a sealed system.

My way of looking at it is by the time you get there start draining down put dust sheets down etc your looking 30 mins, another 30 mins to hang and repipe then fill up 30 mins. And that is if it is nice and easy. Maybe I'm not as quick as I used to be.

Hi millsy. I reckoned I'd do it in an hour . My town is driveable from one end to other in 5 - 10 mins so no travel time. I was just taken back with her say in it was dear. Best off not doing

Maybe I should talk less and work more! Lol.

I've had a few people ask what my day rate is recently after sending a quote over. Thinking I am charging too much on the labour, they are politely reminded that I have advertising, insurances, van, accountant, apprentice etc all to pay plus my wages for being the head engineer, secretary, book keeper, HR etc. Then the company has to make a profit as well. They soon back track, but then I don't want to work for people like that so refuse to work for them even if they do accept the price.

Me too. How much or little I make is my prerogative. Some days I will make well over £1000 labour others £150

My reply is, I'm a craftsman skilled and equipped not a whor-e if you want to pay by the hour call the job center

Same here will not work for those who ask the the question of my day rate and will not fit boilers supplied by them. my profit margin is my business not theirs. Some jobs i make a shed load some i dont. Am a business not a charity.

that said i have worked free for old folk that deserve it.
