Hi
As a newly qualified plumber I am looking at joining a professional body (competent person scheme etc). There are a number of bodies (CIPHE. APHC etc) all extolling their own virtues. What bodies would the membership suggest I look at joining and why ?
Steve

Until one of the associations can guarantee you will have the same standing has an accountant, doctor (IE a recognised professional qualification that allows you to work legally), I would keep your money where it can do you most good, in your pocket

Like a good plumber I joined the registered plumbers when I passed the city & guilds, then when they amalgamated with the institute of plumbers became a member of the IOP, but in 50 years I have never been asked for qualifications, when I did produce my certificates all I was told they look nice but can you do plumbing

It has taken the best part of 120 years for the institute of Plumbing to get as far as being a Chartered Institute, so I would not hold your breath too long

The only thing that might make it come quicker, is if an MP or their family was involved in a plumbing accident (like the part P regulations, brought in after an MP's daughter was electrocuted by her boy friends bad wiring, and for the corgi after Ronan Point)

I had to look up Ronan Point, very interesting that the explosion was caused by gas but made much worse by poor structure.....

"A public inquiry into the collapse in August 1968 concluded that a gas explosion had triggered the collapse of a building that was structurally unsound. It had been "system-built" using prefabricated concrete panels bolted together like a giant meccano set."

I would say to you to join them, they do now inspect your work, I'm APHC for part G and Part P. Was corgi previously, now saving in excess of £200.00 plus v.a.t a year. If you are not with one of these company's for self cert then you are meant to pay the building inspector an arm and a leg. They also provide back up and a wide range of services (made saving on liabillity insurance inc tool cover £27 a month). Its proffesional.

Hi guys. I'm trying to identify a toilet model before ordering a seat for a customer. I went to what used to be a Roca stockist (they no longer are) and one of the guys there reckoned it might be "The Gap". I went to the new stockist and the guy there disagreed it was "The Gap" and that he'd...

Hi, basic question, any insight much appreciated. Looking to have an outdoor tap in my front porch fed from 15mm pex coming up from suspended floor. Pic 1 is inside porch, pex temporarily clipped to give an idea of pipe placement (ignore shoddy blockwork of booted cowboy builder!), Pic 2 is...
