Hi all,

I am a 29 year old Civil Engineer and at the moment I will more than likely be made redundant in August.

Due to the shortage of engineering work I am looking to re-train as a plumber with a view to working for myself (eventually).

I've spent ages looking round the internet for home learning courses, college courses and my head is spinning.

The problem I have is that I need to have another job in place by August. I am confident that I can pick up the theoretical side of things no problem but the main issue is gaining practical experience.

Can anybody advise me on the best route to take?

Many thanks, Allan.

Hi Allen

Welcome to the forums, hope you find interesting, you will find lots of threads on re training and members experiences of starting out
The problem is always getting experience and that is such a big part needed,I would find the job very hard to do without the confidence needed from the experiance I have gained........... while using a mop :),just a matter of hunting around to help others out and doing small jobs for friends and family

I would think it unrealistic to finish your job and walk straight into a plumbing job, especially in the current climate but who knows were things lead

Good luck to you, hope things work out
