Hi

Sorry this might be a silly question, I'm only a DIY'er. I bought some 22mm elbows by mistake that are 'street fittings' I will be able to use them but it seems to mean using a straight connector as well.

What are they normally used for?

doing tight joints eg center of pipes too close for two elbows, as one side fits inside a fitting and the other fits outside of the pipe
 
Those allergic to pipe benders use them to make partial crossovers.
 
Not suitable for gas. Must be used with unleaded solder only.
 
Never used one yet not had a need can normally get around most things with bending
