    I recently removed a plastic fitting with the small plastic tool for this method however the insert was still lodged in the plastic elbow. I moved the pipe a little(without cutting anything), and used the same plastic elbow into the same insert/pipe.

    Will this be OK?

    yep no issue with using the insert again if in good condition
