I am currently renovating a house and I'm considering fitting a wet room. I already have a quadrant shower enclosure going spare left over from my mothers newly fitted bathroom, trouble is, it's a little pokey and just wouldn't look half as nice as a walk-in wet room. I've been looking at all sorts of wet room decks and tanking kits that are just plain out of my budget. Is there any way I could get away with using treated marine ply as a cheaper alternative? Any advice would be really appreciated.

Cheap and wet rooms do not go together. If not done correctly it can be costly. Why not install a 40mm low profile tray to the floor then overboard floor with 12mm hardie glued and screwed once tiled will only leave a 15mm lip to the tray. Much cheaper option than a wet room wet area should still be tanked though!

Thanks barronbathrooms, I did consider doing that, already have the low-line tray, it's just that with it only being an 800mm quadrant it's lacking in elbow room when the doors are slid shut, plus with it being in a recess of only 900mm wide but 1.5m deep it looks like a naughty kid in the corner. Shame to waste it I know but just considering my options, I'm on a shoe-string trying to do every room at once, spending quicker than I'm earning.

There are really no cheap options if you are only doing the one install. It's different for a wetroom installer as we order materials in bulk and what is left over from one job does the next and so on.

My advice is not to skimp on the cost with a wetroom. If it leaks, severe structural damage can be caused to your property and a leak also means lifting and stripping the whole lot out which is a expensive waste when it could with a little care and foresight have been avoided if done correctly in the first place.

Thanks system3, It sounds like the kind of thing most people would say, including me, shame I can't take my own advice, just needed to hear it from the proper fitters. cheers lads.

Just finished this one but nothing booked in.
All about price at the moment! Cost seems more important than quality!
