Can anyone help me with an ongoing issue I've had since I had an annual service on my combi boiler, which is a Potterton Performa 24. Literally after they left I started experiencing yellow water (pale) from all my taps - hot and cold, including the toilet.

This was intermittent and then stopped for a few days. I went away for a week and turned off my heating and when I came back, the yellow water came back and is now permanent. It was even worse in my toilet which is now an almost brown/reddish colour. all the water has a foul smell - like iron, almost like the taste of blood.

I've had the boiler engineer come back and say it is nothing they did and is not a boiler issue, but I think its a weird coincidence. They did tell me I have sludge in the system and advised me to have a power flush, but I was also advised to get a new boiler (as this one is over 17 years old), however this does not explain why it is yellow from my cold taps.

I've asked my water board to check the water supply and they came yesterday and did a flush through my system through my mains and confirmed there was not contamination in their water supply.

Weirdly though this flush seemed to clear the yellow water in my toilet, though all my other taps still have yellow water.

I do have boiler and plumber insurance, but I am getting nowhere with them and because I know nothing about boilers or plumbing, I don't know how to argue and push back, as each engineer pushes the issue back to the other.

Please help!!

Can anyone shed any light on this problem?

Hi, this is solved now. Turns out the boiler engineer had left something open even though they told me multiple times it couldn't possibly be the boiler and it must be a plumbing issue. It was totally their fault. Once they closed it (sorry I don't remember what it was) the problem was solved....no more yellow water.
