Hi,

I have 1/2 BSP brass wall plate connector secured to brick wall 150mm apart to which I am connecting
Z connectors supplied with my Mira Shower valve.

I have done a trial run connecting the Z connectors and shower valve. The shower seals nicely on the 3/4 inch part of the Z connectors (no surprise there as there is a rubber washer inside) but water pours out of where the Z connector screws into the 1/2 inch wall plate elbow, which I feared may happen as there is no washer and the Z connector doesn’t fully screw in as this is where any fine adjustment is made.

I’ve tried PTFE tape and sealant on the 1/2” thread of the Z connector before screwing it into the brass wall plate but it still leaks. Any ideas please.

Many Thanks

Ken

I have attached a pic of both parts

More ptfe tape around 15 wraps

Or loctite 577

Run a hacksaw diagonally across the 1/2 inch threads a few times so that they are a bit jagged then use plenty of ptfe tape wrapped the correct way . Often the chrome connectors are too smooth and the ptfe slips

Can we get a new, restricted section of the forum for z connector related posts? One with relevant warnings and maybe an age verification.
I clicked by accident and there was no warning that there would be pictures.
Need a lie down now...

what min 60 years old?

As above replace with a fast fix kit personally I never mess around with Z connectors theres always a risk of turning in the wall when tightening if you must use them use locktite 55 on the threads . Kop

[shudder]

You know like on films where a hydrogen bomb is being defused and the guy is making the slowest most gentle moves known to man with a sweaty brow, carefully removing the 4 machine screws nice and easy. Cut the yellow wire etc...

That is how I back off a bar shower nut on an evening job, you can normally tell its on z connectors by the ways its ever so slightly dropping off the wall, one micro turn of that dodgy joint in the wall (and it WILL be just hanging on for its life) and your whole week is ruined.

If you've still got access to pipework, fit one of these (or similar) will save you a lot of arsing around
