My mum who is 73 has recently moved house to a bungalow where she cannot have her central heating on without the hot water also coming on. This annoys her as she feels it must be bumping up her gas bills. She has had a quote for "separating" the systems, which is about £2300 inclusive of VAT. What she wants to know is, how much is separating the heating and hot water systems, actually likely to save her on her gas bills? Basically she is worried that she will not live long enough to recoup the cost of the work involved. She doesn't use that much hot water - washes up maybe twice a week(!!), bath twice a week, washing machine once a week. But she does have the heating on quite a lot.

depend what the layout is at present b ut that seems a lot of money she could have a lower end combi installed for that sort of price
