I have always put the cold feed and vent near the pump as that's what I was taught.

I now have a job I really need to move the cold feed and vent as they are piped up the old gravity way. The problem is getting them to the pump will be a right pig.

Can I fit it to the cylinder return? Or do I have to get it to the common return?
