Hi Guys

We have a baxi 80eco combi boiler. The boiler kept cutting out when we put the heating on or whenever we ran hot water. Ie in shower it would be hot then go freezing for a few mins then hot again etc. We had one boiler guy come out and inform us water had leaked into the boiler and that it had been caused by a blockage in the flu as we had ivy on our outside wall which had covered over the flu and water had been dripping in that way. Anyway on his advice I got the Ivy cleared and everything was great. The flu is still clear of any ivy but the problem has just started again today and the pressure keeps dropping very quickly. I have a boiler repair man coming on Wednesday and he did mention possibly the gas valve being broke. I am trying to estimate (although I appreciate this is hard to diagnose online) roughly what the damage will be both to the boiler and my pocket as I have a 14 month old son and not lots of money despite working full time.

Any help will be very gratefully received

Baxi 80Eco got engineer coming but some advice please - got young son - heating cuts

Hi All,

I did post a message but it has not gone through?

Anyway I have a Baxi 80eco. I have an engineer coming out on Wednesday after I return from a few days away at my mums.

The boiler kept cutting out when we used the central heating or ran hot water. It would be hot then cold etc.

A boiler repair man came out and said there had been water in the boiler coming from the flu and that it was causing all the chemicals to come back up the flu and cut the boiler out. On his advice we cleared the ivy and then when the flu was cleared the problem resolved but the pressure kept dropping.

Anyway today I have noticed that the flu is still clear but the heating keeps cutting out. It fires up and goes amber (green light is also on) but then the amber light cuts out and so does the sound of the fan. When I had a shower the heating goes hot then cold. The problem is causing the radiators to not fully heat.

I spoke to an engineer who said it sounded like a gas valve.

I am just curious as to the extent of the damage and the possible cost. A new boiler would financially cripple us and I am loosing sleep. How much am I looking at or is a new boiler seriously the only new option? I appreciate you may not be able to give any advice online.

We can not give you specific advice on gas appliance faults, it could be a number of different failures. Have confidence in the engineer and make sure he is gas safe registered. If you have the manufacturer installation instruction manual that may be of use to you as there is a fault finding section.

Re: Baxi 80Eco got engineer coming but some advice please - got young son - heating c

Seconded. Could be one of many things causing the boiler to shut off or lock out. Despite your attempts to detail symptoms and recent issues with the boiler, only a site visit by a competent reputable gas safe registered heating engineer will be able to get to the bottom of your problem and advise you.
Post the job on the need a plumber/ gas engineer thread and hopefully a forum regular will get in touch.
Even with more detailed information a diagnosis over the internet is at best a logical guess and may not leave you any more informed as to the fault or the cost of repair. The forum rules prohibit the discussion of gas boiler repairs on the open forum for the safety of the general public.

Re: Got a boiler man coming but any guesses on what to expect financially? Young mum

all depends on where you are, and what the final fault is found to be, however if the pressure is dropping it wont be a gas valve issue and if it keeps going cold its another issue as well so you could have 2 problems that need sorting, start at ÂŁ75 to 200 plus depending on the answer really.

Have replied to your other essentialy duplicate post but suffice to say the above advice and replys from other fellow forum members is sound.

Hello, I am seeking some advice, I have a POTTERTON PROMAX 28 COMBI Boiler and I noticed yesterday that the water around the house is no longer warming up. The heat exchanger has been changed 6 months ago, so I do not believe it is that. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Thanks
