Hi all,

I've just moved into a new place and there is no shower in the bathroom, have bought a cheap plastic/rubber mixer thingy as a short term measure.

I want to change the taps to a thermostatic shower mixer but from what I understand, the one I have looked at requires the hot water on the left and cold on the right, but my pipes are the other way round!

Does it make any difference and any ideas??

Any help muchly appreciated!

Thermostatic showers/taps do need connecting as said otherwise it'll not work, some showers can be turned upside down, but surely fitting a new shower will require a change in the pipework anyway, normally easy enough done under the bath.
Make sure you choose the right shower as type of water system may reduce your choice and thermostatic showers like a nicely balanced supply.

I was reading fitting instructions (I think on Mira site) and for some of their shower mixers it was possible to convert them. Don't know about the ones with taps though.

Steve's last sentence is V important to consider for thermostatic taps.

Hot on left cold on right i dont know why people put them tother way round it is standard installation and always has been .. (for blind people)

This does my nut When testing a boiler for hw, u end up thinking the dia is worn when the pin doesn't move, especially for some reason some plumbers fit the hot and cold the wrong way round but also mess up when designating the colours, ie red shud be for hot and blue for cold not the other way around, don't know how many times I've come accross that, it just seems so lazy

a manual shower will be okay in this install

but a thermo will not work properly and temp will fluctuate, look at changing the pipe work and a thermostatic shower ideally requires dedicated feeds

Hi, When fitting the proposed mixer. The job of reversing the supplies is quite a small job. Especially with the flex connection that seem popular now.
As its only likely to take a few minutes of your time. Good Luck

Hi
I have just has new bathroom taps fitted.
Previously although I did not notice I had cold on left and hot on right.
(I have fairly old cottage).
This is how my plumber has fitted my new ones.
Now a few people have said that I should have hot on left and cold on right.
Is it worth me changing them or not?
I am thinking not but it is really bugging me!!

If your taps are separate as in not a mixer tap then there's not an issue really,
Although if its really bugging you it should only take an hour or two to change the pipes over depending on your system

Standard is hot on the left and cold on the right, but tbh when replacing taps for customers then they go back in the same way as they came out unless told to do otherwise.

Simple answer is, if you was that bothered then you should have asked him to change them round when he did the works!

Sounds harsh but if you knew they were that way before and didn't say anything then it can't be that much of a worry?!

I was stupid enough not to check the position of the pipes under the tiles when installing a toilet and drilled right through the center of a 16 mm copper water pipe. I exposed the pipe by removing a ~30cm section of the plastic sleeve and a ~10 cm section of the pipe around the hole. Several...

Hi, basic question, any insight much appreciated. Looking to have an outdoor tap in my front porch fed from 15mm pex coming up from suspended floor. Pic 1 is inside porch, pex temporarily clipped to give an idea of pipe placement (ignore shoddy blockwork of booted cowboy builder!), Pic 2 is...

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
