Garryaca@yahoo.

I’ m looking to change careers, from 20 years of frying my eyeballs in front of a computer, I want to do something practical and useful, I’ve been out with a friend of mine who is a gas engineer/plumber and loved the work so I’m looking to train as a plumber.
Now I would prefer to go to college but he problem is I can’t give up my job just yet to train and evening classes start to early for me to get to.

My head is swimming with all the companies offering training, I live near to The Plumbing Academy in Edenbridge, but then they all sound good and seam to offer a lot so I’m a bit stumped, any advice very welcome eventually I would like to specialise in renewables. I’m no spring chicken at 46, and I realise it will be hard work with no quick fix

Cheers

G

you would be better of going to night classes. more time to learn and absorb what you learn.

unless you have someone to mentor you dont bother you need that hands on with a safety net to develop your skills

I do have someone to go on jobs with a friend and nieghbour of mine is a plumber/heating engineer and does work for himself as well as contracting for british Gas.

The trouble with night school is that they all start around 6pm and i can't get to any on time!!

couple of the companies can do weekend courses so if you have the determination then i think able skills in essex offer this
do the basics on their 6129 and then spend as much time as poss with your friend
i have had to use all this year and nexts vacation to do my acs for gas

Why don't you ask work if you can start and finish earlier on the days you need to be at college. They don't need to know why you need to leave early and if they ask tell them that you what to do volunteer work for a charity.

Thanks for the advice chaps..I've signed up for a college course ...a year of saturdays!...in Kingston ......good job I hate football!
