A teacher from the training centre I went to recommeded against going for just your name. Or Smith & Sons etc.. Because they're not memorable. And to a point I think he may be right.

As regards to your name yes there are arguments saying using your name in your business such as Smith Plumbing is not memorable but on the other side of the debate is using quirky names such as Radical Plumbing where people may think your too gimmick and 'not a traditional plumber' out to make an honest living, especially the old dears.

In my eyes it doesnt really matter too much

pick a funny name if thats your nature or a formal one if thats your nature.

No point having a business called Ballcock and bits and not having a sense of humour!

The world is your limit here though with a name

I actually got a call from a gay **** shop who had a blocked toilet , I walked in the door with a plunger in a carrier bag (three foot handle exposed) and everyone stared at me ....at first as i did'nt know it was a gay ****o shop then i twigged as walking through shop to the back cloakroom and introduced myself .....Ahhhhh your the plumber . I bet some of them thought christmas come early.

Sam. I traded as Action Line 24 hour Plumbing back in early 70's (at the time AC got you to the front of yellow pages.) Best ever spell was 16 calls in 2 hours Those were the days £6 call out plus vat 48p.
But your welcome to it along with banks, BBc, and others who all use the phrase since with out asking permission. Good Luck

I don't think it matters about what you call yourself, just call yourself GH Plumbing services or whatever your initials are. Get yourself a nice shiny van and get it logo'd up and people will remember that and your good work, not a gimmicky name.
