I have a Vaillant Thermocompact supplying 2 heating circuits and the DHW. It's around 12 years old, needs the occasional repressurising, but generally been excellent. BG engineer was round last week, to replace the mains supply tap to the Megaflo and change a noisy motorised valve on one heating circuit.
He reckons it would be worth switching to a Combi, either Vaillant again or a Worcester - and they have a deal on at the moment.
I remember when we were building the house we were advised not to touch a Combi with the proverbial bargepole - any thoughts?
We have been told a number of times that the pressure vessel on the Thermocompact is a bit on the small side for our system, but it seems to work OK. The advice to change is because the old boiler's 12 years old, and a new Combi would be much more efficient. Any opinions on this from the pros gratefully received.

Dont switch from an unvented cylinder to a combi boiler, you will regret it.

A new boiler will be more efficient and will save you money on your gas bills, but if the old one is still working ok then leave it as it is.

BG engineers are on comission so often their advice is not based on what is actulty best for the customer. If it was my boiler i would keep it and run it into the ground as long as its working, you won't save much money due to the new boiler being more efficiant and stick with a system boiler, don't get a combi if you can help it, thats what I would do anyway.

how many bathrooms have you ? what is you hot water demands ?
agree with southcoastboile about bg

what ever you decide to do go with a local heating engineer , for a better service and to save min of 1k on boiler change job should you require one .
Do not rip out UHWC to go for a combi . Is going to be like to sell your audi to by a ford :)

As everyone else has said, even if you did decide to change your boiler, get a system boiler and keep your UHWC. The BG guy is talking through the wrong hole to recommend a combi over an UHWC.

1 bathroom, 1 ensuite, just two of us with my daughter back from college sometimes.
I certainly wasn't planning on losing the unvented system - would a combi require this?

(not that I shall be changing after this advice)!

Surprised they didnt say the noisy twoport was because you need a power flush and a magna clean as well. Stick with what you have wait till the boilers on it last knockings and cant get spares before swapping if you dont have the budget and stay well away from bg when u need a new one

I think BG are fantastic, couldn't count on two hands and two feet the work I've had due to them put the jeepers creepers into people and half frightening them to death. Long may they carry on !!!!!
