Sorry for this off topic post. As plumbers I guess some of you may have come across pigeons in lofts?

Just found about 4 pigeons in the loft and I think they have been there a while!! I can see daylight at the eves, so guessing that's how they have got in but also the dividing wall between us and next door isn't in great condition (property is 130 years old) so there are paths to next door loft. Also next door seem to have expanded foam in their eves as viewed from outside.

Anyway question is, anyone any ideas on cost to remove pigeons, seal up eves (is that sensible, as need loft ventilated), and remove and replace loft insulation, eves about 30ft across and probably 30x30ft 280mm insulation. Called a company to come and have a look but that's not till Monday.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Seal all access points, including party walls. Also any holes in disused chimney stack, often found where chase for lead flashing has damaged brick. Don't delay, once they breed harder to deter. Air rifle and torch to eliminate. A loft populated by pigeons is a major health hazard.
Soffit or overfacia vents will maintain ventilation.

Cheers. Problem with getting soffits or over facia is it's 3 stories up so full scaffold would be required but if it's only way I will have to. Plus it's not an easy soffit job as it's a bit of a Victorian ornamental under side of roof at eves.
Air rifle did appeal but don't have rifle and probably not a good enough shot to make it quick.

Looks like it's not going to be a cheap job :(

Oh sugar........ Found out where they are getting in.... The chimney stack!!! Seems to be devoid of about 45cm of flashing, missing a few bricks and is leaning towards the roof!!!!!!!!
So in one way the pigeons did me a favour as I now know I have to have the stack removed. Had I not found out it could have fell on people!!!
So now fun job of getting quotes for builder/roofer to remove stack and make good plus scaffold 3 stories up plus the gable end! Once that is set to be done the pest control will come and remove pigeons and sanitise the area loft!!!
