How many people have got a unit or office they work out of instead of a corner of the lounge or kitchen?

Just moved house and the small 3rd bedroom is in the process of being my office, no more balancing the laptop on my knee in the living room and out the back there's a garage big enough to fit 4 cars in. Once I get this racked out I'll be able to see what I have. It's meant I carry less in the van.

My office is in my converted garage. It also doubles as a gym for the missus (but I know for a fact she hasn't used the running machine for months cos I robbed the fuse!).
I use a hired 40' container in an industrial estate local to me as a store, mainly scrap and bits and pieces.

Im thinking about hiring a unit , there's a lot around here with offices above a store room, i would be nice to go home and forget about work aswell I thought. And to go to the office to get away from the kids lol.

My old boss had a unit, big stores out the back stoked with plenty of fittings very rarley had to go to the merchants and to desks in the front for him and receptionst. I work out of my garage at the minute half is in the process of becoming a office and the other half a store

I live in a 3 story house with a garage and office on the ground floor, so I'm pretty much sorted for now.

I call my van my office.

I'm lucky we live in the sticks and outbuildings are two a penny so always have plenty of storage space. Round these parts many houses have a sort of annex/outside office too so you can lock away your work and forget it for the weekend.

Feel a little for those in towns but then for townfolk it's only 5 mins to the merchants, 2 mins to the newspaper, walk home from pub, take aways, etc, etc.

I've got a few outbuildings aswell, always feel the need to pop in an do 5 minutes paper work which turns into hours!
i think it looks more professional to have a proper office etc, it's just the security aspect then!

When we started to expand the family business we were still working out of my fathers house. Not having a garage or anything the dining room and kitchen were used as a gathering place as the office led off the kitchen. It was a nightmare for Mum. It wasn't long before we had to get a place.

When we closed down we had an office, staff room, two inside stores and an outside yard. When we were busy it was great but when things got quiet it was eating up most of our profit and we couldn't afford to lower prices because of the rent we were paying so were losing out to firms without the large over heads.

You also need to keep a tight rein on stock control, we weren't tight enough on it and when we closed the business down we found that staff had been over ordering all sorts of stuff and just sticking the excess out the back. We tried to run the business the same way that we had run it when it was just family and it doesn't work. In hindsight we were much too soft on our staff.

There all the reasons that's stopping me to be honest, when I was serving my time the yard /stores/office was like above was very handy tho!

I was stupid enough not to check the position of the pipes under the tiles when installing a toilet and drilled right through the center of a 16 mm copper water pipe. I exposed the pipe by removing a ~30cm section of the plastic sleeve and a ~10 cm section of the pipe around the hole. Several...

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...

Hello all, I’m replacing a concrete paving slab patio in the back yard. The original patio used 50mm deep concrete slabs on hardcore & sand. I’m planning to pour a 100mm deep concrete patio on 100mm hardcore. In order to achieve the same final height to line up with the rest of the patio, I...

Hello all, I'm would like to extend an existing outside tap to another point in the garden. I'm about to pour a concrete patio and was hoping to run the water line underneath. There are existing drain (and who knows what) pipes running along the same wall so I'm nervous about digging too far...

We run a community village hall and have a large kitchen provided for the use of hirers. This includes a Lincat SLR9 gas cooker which I believe is a 23.8Kw appliance with all six burners and oven on max. This was installed some 10 years ago and has passed all subsequent Gas Safety inspections as...
