Anyone know if i need planning to build a more secure version of a garden shed in the garden?
Thinking size 10 foot by 8 foot single block of of decent timber substance .

I didn't think you needed planning for a timber structure? Somewhere for the scrap to go??

I need a more secure version of a garden shed so i can put scrap and tools in etc etc however needs to be decent size

Check local council rules, doesn't it have something to do with the size of the garden and how much % of space the "shed" takes up?

Yea had a look online and from what i can see with size of garden i have i can't see it being an issue. wasn't sure tho if i can just put a large block house outside at the back of garden.

Guess the only way to be certain is to ring them with all the intel to hand so you can answer any Q`s there and then, one other thing though, if any neighbour has done it then you should be good to go.

Planning Portal good source of information. Basically if you don't live in a conservation area you should be OK. Under 30m² floor area does not need building regs. Under 15m² can be within metre of boundary without fire protection. Heights to eaves and ridge restricted but these can easily be satisfied. One friendly Building Inspector even allowed a 30m² work shop next to a 15m² shed, linked with covered walkway, but that was the result of long term and mutually respectful dealings.

Pretty sure you don't pal, but definitely worth checking out before hand like the above posts say. Check with local council etc just in case.

as far as i was aware if its a temporary building it doesn't need planning but they can tell you to remove it, i'd just get on the phone and see what they say, and ask your neighbors if they'd have any objection to you building a new shed

Tell them its going to be more student accommodation, Plymouth council will be OK with it then

I still havnt got round to it , lol , but I was given a load of old pebble dashed garage concrete panels . So I can make a concrete shed.
Just need bolting together and a roof on , would probably double as a nuclear fall out shelter .
I am lucky I can get it between my garage and the neighbours garden wall so I will only see the front.

Theres always sombody wanting rid of an old garage.
