Hello, just a quick query re elderly neighbour's bill for repair to back boiler ..he has been charged a total of £135 for cleaning of existing parts to get pilot light to stay lit. Job took under 2 hours, no new parts needed. Under "materials" he's been charged £7.50 for "smoke pellet, smoke match and analyser". Would this be about right or not?

Any info appreciated, thanks.

Well it is not excessive,I am in the south and that would be a very fair charge,it is a back boiler unit,so fire had to come out and burner ect removed, alot more to it ,than the modern boilers, just under 2 hours is average as well, seems like the has done the job correctly
imho

Hi, thanks for replies, I'm in the London area. Reason I was checking was that he was quoted £35 an hour labour and they were there for just under 2 hours, however his invoice shows a labour charge of £105 - i.e a 3 hour charge.

if thats what was quoted the fair enough ask him why , also imho thats a realy dam good price for london

£135.00 does not sound too bad for a repairing a back boiler & all that is involved in taking these apart. Smoke pellet, smoke match & analyser test sounds like he has done a nice thorough job.
