Sealant suggestions

I was reading a thread from a couple of days ago in which a couple of people were debating the best type of sealants to use when fitting wastes in sanitaryware.

I have until now been using plumbers mate which works okay but you can quickly get into a mess with it. I have used it on washbasins and bathtubs but having read the earlier thread someone was suggesting not to use it on acrylic baths.

To make sure i always get a watertight seal, even if the waste comes with 2 x rubber washers i have used a little plumbers mate, not too much and never in a way that looks unsightly or would make it difficult for another to come along after me.

I have tried a silicon sealant but find it a bit of a nightmare if you get excess as its really greasy to clean up.

What type of sealants do you use and if you dont mind me asking why do you use it ?

Never used a sealant yet when fitting new (and never been called back about a leak either!) Repaired with silicone sealant because it's cheap!

plumbers mate for me keep my hands wet-ish and it dosent stick and a bit of ptfe on the thread.

Hi first time i have been on this site
I stoped using plumbers mate years ago . it is rubish , as the joint gets hot it softens and the joint becomes loose . when i am called out to a wast pipe leak it is usualy because p/mate has been used
I only use dow corning silicone under the flange then fill the space around the thred and ONLY use a nilon washer (throw the rubber one away as it will squeeze out if silicon gete on it )
I have never had a bad joint .

i,v used sealant,s for years, just a small amount as you would boss white on rubber seals and larger amounts on basins wastes .clean off with alcohol wipes which you can get from any good builing suppliers

or any baby wipes that contain citric acid(most do) and a lot cheaper to boot
