Hi all. I'm just wondering whether gas appliances are traceable? I.e where it was purchased or sold. A guy wants me to do a job but he's gotta supply everything. I'm not comfortable with it.
Any advice?
I know at grahams and screwfix you need your gas safe number so I would assume if an engineer had purchased a gas appliance it would be traceable??

No, its not traceable until/if its registered.

There are no tracing requirements down the supply chain

Problem is mate I think they're are about the only ones that do for a gas safe card. Many of us have said it would it would be good to Trace these things as well as stemming the sale of gas goods to DIYers

Old lightning fingers Stafford got in first

Lol. Why don't they trace it to be able to stop the DIYers? If grahams can trace it why can't others such as Tradeonly?

I'm not sure Grahams or Screwfix will be able to trace it. I bet they don't record the serial number etc

Tell them you need a copy of the receipt for your records.
If they refuse it's probably dodgy

Its the same with everything in this country, your allowed to buy anything you like, but not always allowed to use/install it

As I have said before, the majority of sales of gas appliances are not to GSR engineers.

They are either sales down the supply chain (ie manufacturer to distributor or merchant) or sales to perfectly respectable organisations that prefer to buy materials themselves but subcontract labour.

The latter include local authorities, Housing Associations, government depts, forces establishments, universities, major developers, and a thousand other similar organisations.

Advice...price the job accordingly.

I get the feeling that whatever you price the job at, will be too much for this person.

If he's that keen on supplying all the equipment & materials himself, I'm sure he has a figure in his head on what he is willing to pay for the installation.

That figure will be well below the figure that you give him.

Am I the only one struggling to find appliances' manuals online? I know it's hard enough with cookers and old gas fires but I've just been unable to find the manual for an Ideal Exclusive. I thought I had found it but it turns out the GC number was different. Given the law says "refer to MI"...

If a domestic boiler/gas appliance is in a commercial property, does this mean a gas engineer would need commercial tickets/qualifications?

Hi, I’m looking to retrain as a gas engineer and do a new entrants gas course. I’m a bit concerned by the ‘on-job’ work experience/shadowing, as some course want to charge £1500 to pair you up with a qualified engineer. Some courses don’t offer pairing and suggest you find your own engineer to...
